On June 2, 2014, the US Department of Defense (DoD) announced a Request for Information (RFI), the first step in the process of creating a new public-private Institute for Manufacturing Innovation (IMI) as part of the President's National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI). In the RFI, the DoD lists six potential technological areas under consideration, which includes photonics. Only two will be selected which is why it is critical for our community to weigh in.  The RFI can be found here.
